Since the launch of DotNetMushroom Rapid Application Developer (RAD) at DotNetNuke OpenForce ’09 in the Netherlands, we have not looked back. We are pleased with the interest caused, the hundreds of downloads and the amount of people that have contacted us via the forums or email. We have also received quite a large of amount of suggestions which expanded our already large wish list and have been entered in our Road Map.

We are pleased to announce with this newsletter the Road Map for next version of the DotNetMushroom RAD. In any case our intentions and directions were, and will remain, to develop a tool which serves both the hardcore developer, who does everything in code, the developer who wants to do a few clicks and be able develop a full application, as well as the designer who wants to focus on the design and not have to find JavaScript in the way. We are also making sure that a developer and a designer can work together seamlessly.
The Launch of DotNetMushroom RAD v.1.20
Last week we have launched our first major version of the DotNetMushroom RAD, v.1.20. For this version we have listened to your comments and included the major requests together with those that had been planned in the roadmap. Version 1.20 includes capability to integrate to external databases ‘out of the box’. A workaround to accessing external databases was available but we have felt that with the amount of requests that we received, this feature deserved a properly implemented solution. Since its first release, DotNetMushroom RAD was commended for its polished design. Integrating data from an external data source is not only easy but also intuitive. We’re not stopping here and we’re planning more features and methods on how to access any data source, anywhere.

With this new version you will also find color coded syntax editors for SQL queries, HTML, JavaScript and CSS. This will surely help you to implement your development in a more user-friendly manner. Our commitment does not stop here. We have plans for further enhancements not just in the functionality area but also in the user interaction for our future releases.
The Roadmap for DotNetMushroom RAD
The Roadmap for DotNetMushroom RAD

Today, we are announcing our priorities for these forthcoming releases of DotNetMushroom RAD. Besides continuing to extend database access, we will be integrating the following NEW enhancements that will allow developers to:
  • Create Seo & Human Friendly URL (Navigator)
  • Build custom controls which can be used inside RAD
  • Build independent modules (i.e. modules which can run with a royalty free runtime version of RAD).
We will also be posting new controls and enhance our existing ones. One much requested control is the ability to hide sections of a form via a simple wizard, possibly server side, rather than client side using JavaScript. Image management will be extensively enhanced, the much requested CAPTHCHA control, various JQuery controls out of the box, and much more.

Obviously we will like to hear from you what other controls you would like in the next version, and any other feature that you wish us to implement in the future releases.

Please feel free to add your suggestions on our wishlist
